The firmament of words that kept falling like thunderstorms at SOS Poetry Slam 2.0, kept the audience entertained; yelling, clapping, snapping fingers, standing, shouting and at times screaming the stage names of their favorite contestants. Indeed, It was far, far better and lovelier than the maiden edition. The Ankara (African) prints that replaced the usual banners/backdrops found on event stages wowed the audience.
The slam started with performance from PoeThick Samurai, the sacrificial poet at the maiden and second edition, back-to-back.
The Round One of the slam featured 15 contestants, which reduced to 8 in Round Two, and 5 in Round Three. The 3rd and final round of the slam had two poets each tied on points at both the first and the 2nd position, and at the end of the day Fr33zinPaul came first, followed by LKG, and then Charlee came third.
Presentation of the overall Winner’s cheque was done by Sir Eriata Oribhabor, Winner of Best Poetry Promoter of The Year (2015, 2016) at the prestigious Nigerian Writers’ Award (NWA), giving words of advice; he added that a time will come where every occasion won’t be complete without the performance of a poet/Spoken Word Artiste that if all hands are laid on deck to keep promoting poetry everywhere we go.
