I binge on YouTube videos a lot and recently I came across Simon Sinek’s video where he talked about “Start with Why.”
It is an awesome lecture/ talk, and I love the way he broke down the process of asking the right questions to get the required solution. He called it the Golden Circle and stated the questions as, “why,” “how,” and “what.”
These words define the core of individuals and organizations, showing whether it is the emotional side or logical side their products/ services appeal to. So the words can also be used to form vision and mission statements.
One key thing I got from what he said can be paraphrased as follows:
“For if you talk about what you believe, you will attract those who believe what you believe. This is why, Martin Luther King said, “I have a dream, and not, I have a plan.” There are leaders and those who lead; leaders hold a position of power or authority but those who lead, inspire us. We follow those who lead not because we have it, but because we want to.”
So I want to play around a little with these words “why,” “how,” and “what” using our performance poetry competition, War Of Words. Here goes:
“We want to celebrate YOU, the talented, skilled but yet unknown and unappreciated poet. For you are a person who has value to offer, and we are here to let the world know and see your value. We simply want you to Excel.
We will give you a platform to showcase your talents to the world, and surround you with greatness i.e. respected and admired poets, who act as judges to advise, cheer and announce you to the world.
Through our platform, your creative ability will be recognized, appreciated and rewarded. For the world will see you as a person of value, and ready or not, here you come!!!”
What if we do a “Why,” “how,” and “what” for a Telecoms Company? Check this out:
“Your success and progress matters to us, and we are here to partner with you to do more, achieve more and be more than you ever thought possible.
We will provide you with unmatched quality services to ensure you have all you need to get all you desire.
For we have the network that is ready, and able, to provide you with unparalleled amount of data and quality services to allow you reach for the sky and be a shining star.”
So who next needs to know “Why,” “how,” and “what”???
