If poetry ever bored you, maybe it was because it wasn’t made in Nigeria like it was on Saturday June 17th when Dike Chukwumerije and his Simply Poetry crew took the city of Lagos by storm in what could be called a theatrical transcendence.
An event which held at the popular stage showpiece capital of Lagos, Terrakulture saw Lagosians pour out in their throngs. To say that expectations weren’t exceeded would be an understatement to the excellence in delivery, emoting and total flow of the show which was a perfect blend of POETRY, MUSIC, DRAMA, DANCE and more.
The lead actor/performer was the only audible voice in a 120 minutes spoken word theatre that left the audience glued to their seat. The story touched the very many sided glory and tragedy that befell the Nation of Nigeria from her formation up until her independence from her colonial masters. The storyline was rich, full of suspense, light enough for humor and touching enough to draw tears out of the eyes of the audience in some glitz moments.
In the end, the message was clear that Nigeria has gone to far to be broken into parts and that we all must embrace ourselves as one, upholding nationality above ethnicity. One people, one nation!
Made In Nigeria by Dike Chukwumerije deserves plenty accolades and should be spread across the cities of Nigeria in my opinion.
