Wayne Samuel, winner of Nigeria’s foremost Slam Poetry Competition – War Of Words Season 6 and 7.

 

War Of Words (Spoken Word Poetry Competition) is an event to showcase and bring to limelight young, exciting and talented Spoken Word Poets based in Nigeria.

It is an avenue to view and promote the performances of new poets and also, a selection process of new poets that will get to step up and perform at the foremost Spoken Word Poetry event in Nigeria, WORD UP.

 


You are invited to the main event of War Of Words Season 8 (i.e. on stage performance of the finalists) which will hold over 6 weeks and will feature over 30 poets in 3 quarterfinals, one semifinal and a Grand Final.

The schedule of events will holds as follows:

3 QUARTER FINALS

The Quarter Final for Group 1 hold on Sunday October 27, 2019.

The Quarter Final for Group 2 hold on Sunday November 3, 2019.

The Quarter Final for Group 3 hold on Sunday November 10, 2019.

The quarterfinal will have 3 rounds and six poets will advance from each group into the Semi Final making a total of 18 poets that will compete in the semi final. The top five poets automatically qualify from each group, while the sixth spot will be decided between the 6th and 7th placed poets via online voting on Twitter.

ONE SEMI FINAL

The Semi Final holds on Sunday November 17, 2019.

The 18 poets that qualify from the Quarter Finals will be divided into two groups and will “face-off” against one another in the Semifinal. One versus one, one round, one poem and only 9 poets advance to the Grand Final.

ONE GRAND FINAL

The Grand Final holds on Sunday December 1, 2019.

The 9 poets that qualify from the Semi Final will compete in 3 rounds to determine the winner.

THE VENUE FOR ALL THE EVENTS

The KÖNA Recreative Hub,
1, Ebunolu Adegboruwa Lane,
Off Freedom Way,
Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State.

Directions: From Lekki Phase 1 gate, take a bike/ Keke Marwa/ jog or drive down to the last junction of Admiralty Way i.e. the end of Admiralty Way is Freedom Way.

Then turn left and look out for Ebunolu Adegboruwa Lane on your right. KÖNA Recreative Hub is the first building by the left, Number One.

You can also come into Freedom Way via Ikate or 3rd Roundabout Lekki Bus Stop.

TIME : 2pm to 6pm on each day.

GATE FEE : Free, just register at the gate and buy yourself a drink
